Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are pleased to see that your child has shown interest in participating on Aubrey’s Girls’ or Boys’ Volleyball team! Please read the details below and return the permission form as soon as possible.

The team practices will be during our lunch hour on Monday (boys) and Tuesday (girls) and Friday (everyone) from 12:20 – 12:50pm each week. In addition to lunchtime practices, your child will be travelling to neighbouring schools to play league games! These games are an excellent opportunity for players to practice their volleyball skills in addition to continuing to develop their sportsmanship, communication skills, respect for others during game play, and have fun. During practices and games, all players are expected to attend with proper P.E. strip, runners, and a positive attitude

Please arrive at each game by 4pm to pick up your child (or arrange a ride for them).

Tuesday, September 30^th, is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It’s a day to honour Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities, and to reflect on how we can walk the path of reconciliation together. One way families can support is by learning about and acting on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.

Ideas / Ways to Take Part / Support from Home or in the Community

• Attend a local event with family: https://www.burnaby.ca/recreation-and-arts/events/national-day-truth-and-reconciliation. It can be a chance to have conversations, ask questions, listen.
• Wear orange on September 30 (Orange Shirt Day) to show support and remembrance.
• Visit local libraries or Indigenous cultural centres to check out books, stories, movies by Indigenous authors / creators.
• Support Indigenous artists, makers, and businesses in your community — buy handcrafted items or attend indigenous art workshops.
• Reflect together: after events, talk about what was learned. What feelings came up? What actions could your family or school community take (e.g. volunteering, education, community actions).
